General Class Descriptions

Intro to All-Grain                  Ready to move up from extract?  This is a great class for first time all-grain brewers.  We will walk you through your first all-grain brew day and                                                                  give you hints and tricks to make your entry into all-grain run smoother.

Advanced All-Grain             Dive in to the science of all-grain brewing and learn how to get the most out of your all-grain process.  We will talk infusion mashes, decoction                                                                    mashes, and all about malting.

Yeast & Fermentation        It has been said that brewers make the wort, but yeast makes the beer.  Learn how to take your beer to the next level by understanding and                                                                             controlling the yeast that ferment it.

Water Chemistry                  Advanced (All-Grain Brewers) - Learn how your water chemistry affects the mash and final outcome of your beer, and how to build your water for                                                             a specific beer. 

Brewing for                             Competitions are a great way to get unbiased feedback on your homebrew and your brewing process.  Learn how to enter competitions, how they   Competition                            work, and tips and tricks to getting the best beer in front of the judges.

Intro to Kegging                   Tired of bottling?  Ready to keg your homebrew?  This class will teach you everything you need to know about kegging your homebrew, including                                                               balancing your kegging system, cleaning and maintenance, leak-checking, and even some tricks and tips for getting the most out of your kegging                                                             setup.    

Designing Recipes I            In this class we will go over how to design a recipe from scratch.  Learn how to plan a grain bill and pick the right hops and yeast to make your                                                                     beer.

Designing Recipes II          Learn how to use BeerSmith 2 to design and document your recipes and refine your brewing process.

Identifying & Avoiding     Oxidation causes more than just cardboard flavors. Learn how oxidation affects all parts of the brewing process, including malt and hops, and causes Oxidation                                 a variety of off flavors. Come away with tips and tricks to avoid oxygen in your processes.

Ever wondered how to brew your own beer at home?  This class will go over everything that you need to know to start brewing beer in your kitchen.  The class is free, lasts less than an hour, and is generally offered at least once a month. Watch this page for updated dates & times.

All classes are FREE.  We ask that you RSVP to for any class that you wish to attend (except the Learn to Brew class, email so that we can make sure to save a spot for you.  All advanced classes are Saturdays at 10 a.m. at The Brew Shop unless otherwise noted.  Classes may be canceled for lack of attendance or may be re-scheduled due to unforeseen circumstances.  Please check our website or Facebook page for updates.
